Starting out life as a department store, John Lewis have become known for offering quality products and customer care.
They’ve taken that quality and care into the insurance industry with John Lewis Finance.
As such, we recommend them regularly to our clients when they ask us about pet insurance.
That’s not to say we’re advising you to just rush off and insure your pet through them just yet.
We encourage you to read our review (and other John Lewis pet insurance reviews) fully and consider the pro’s and con’s before making a decision.
John Lewis’ Pet Insurance Promo Video
To start with, John Lewis have created a short video to introduce you to their pet insurance.
John Lewis’ Policy Options
Firstly, John Lewis only insure dogs and cats.
They keep their policies really simple to understand and they only provide ‘covered for life’ policies.
The benefit is that unlike many cheaper policies that stop paying our after 12 months, John Lewis will keep paying out even if your dog has a medical condition that lasts for years.
(As long as you keep up to date with your premium!!!)
There are 3 levels to choose from;
If you’re not quite sure how much to cover you’ll need for your pet, have a read of our Guide to the Best Pet Insurance or have a chat with your vet. They can give you an idea of the likely cost of treatment should they need it.
There are other features included in their policies too including dental care, accidental damage cover, cover on death of an accident or illness and complimentary therapies.
Unlike may pet insurance providers John Lewis have no upper age limit and they can insure your dog or cat from 8 weeks old.
And like PetPlan, they can also pay your vet directly in the event of a claim being made.
How Do Their Policies Compare to other Insurers?
It’s fair to say that John Lewis Finance aren’t the cheapest insurance provider in the market but they’re not trying to be.
Comprehensive cover and excellent customer service comes at a price so if you’re looking for the cheapest quote you can find, they’re probably not the insurance company for you. In which case try a price comparison site like GoCompare.com.
So instead of looking at price, John Lewis have provided a comparison table that compares the key features of policies from some other popular pet insurers including; Aviva, M&S and SAGA.
How Much Does John Lewis Finance Pet insurance Cost?
This is really a difficult question to answer as there are so many variables to consider, like:
- Current Health
- Previous conditions
- Where you live, etc.
But, to give you at least some kind of idea we got 2 quotes through the John Lewis website.
We decided to go with the UK’s most popular breeds of dog and cat, the Labrador Retriever (dog) and the British Short Haired (cat).
The quotes we received were based on a 2 year old animal, based in Lincoln (as that’s where Pet Checkers is based) and in good health.

John Lewis Pet Insurance Reviews from Actual Customers
The industry experts can say all they want and give rave reviews of John Lewis pet insurance but often times they look at a policy from a different perspective that a customer would.
And it’s the customers experience of a company that really matters, so let’s take a look at what actual customers of John Lewis have to say….
Well, customer feedback on John Lewis pet insurance is generally very good.
You can see how their customers are reviewing them on their website by CLICKING HERE.
But here’s a quick look at how they score overall.
Oh, and if you think they doctor the reviews on their website, they’re not allowed. The insurance industry is heavily regulated and doctoring their reviews would be frowned upon!
Naturally there are some negative reviews (after all this is the insurance industry!).
A common complaint is that they seem to take a while posting out hard copies of their policy documents – some customers saying they have never received them. That being said, their customer services department seem to do a good job resolving these issues.
Another issue we’ve seen people report online is that they have been hit with massive price increases, despite having never made a claim.
eDogAdvisor.com have a number of reviews claiming this has happened. That being said, the same thing happens with your car insurance insurance and other types of insurance, in which case, our advice would be to re-apply as a new customer. Or choose another another one of our recommended pet insurers.
