Need Someone to Look After Your Pets?
We’ll Take Care of Them, At Home, in the Environment They’re Used to…

Most people would agree with the saying, ‘There’s no place like home’.
Well guess what? Your pets feel exactly the same!
Many pets find it difficult to adjust when they’re away from home – especially when you’re not there to reassure them that everything is OK.
Strange new surroundings, different food, loud noises and being surrounded by other animals can cause incredible stress to your loved ones. Then there’s the risk of them picking up fleas, parasites and diseases.
All of which causes stress and anxiety for YOU.
Pet Checkers can take all that worry and stress away for both you and your pets by looking after them at home while you’re not there. Whether it’s just for a day or a couple of weeks, we will give them all the love, care and attention they need. We’ll keep them in their routine and in the lifestyle that they’re accustomed to.

If you’d like us to pop in every day we will visit your pets based on a pre-arranged schedule that fits in with their needs and their routine. You tell us what you want done on each visit and we will make sure it gets done.
Our pop in service is ideal for cats, rabbits and other rodents, fish and reptiles etc.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Answers to Our Most Common Questions
[su_accordion class=””][su_spoiler title=”What Kind Of Training Do Your Pet Carers Have?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]
All of our team members are experienced animal lovers and everyone owns their own pets.
We don’t specifically look for qualifications because we find that having a caring, empathetic nature is much more important. That said, many of our team members are studying or have degrees in animal care and management.
Still, we buddy up new recruits with our experienced pet carers. This is to teach them how we work and the standards we set for ourselves.
New team members are also trained in animal first aid. This training is refreshed every three years.[/su_spoiler][su_spoiler title=”What Kind Of Animals Do You Look After?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]
We can look after all kinds of animals.
Dogs, cats, rodents and fish are the most common but we’ve also looked after show rabbits, chickens and pond fish, horses, reptiles, and birds of prey like goshawks, lanner falcons and even a bald eagle!
If you have an exotic animal, just let us know what you need us to do and we’d be super excited to come and take care of them.[/su_spoiler][su_spoiler title=”My Pet Needs Regular Medication, Can Your Still Pet Sit?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]In most cases, yes.
We regularly administer tablets and eye drops and we’ve also given injections from time to time.
The only time this would be a problem is if your pet gets really stressed when taking medication. The last thing we want to do is cause them any undue stress.
Just let us know your if your pet is on medication on your consultation[/su_spoiler][su_spoiler title=”What if My Regular Pet Carer Isn’t Available?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]
When we come to meet you, Vicki will bring one or two other members of our team.
This is to make sure we always have someone available to take care of your pets.[/su_spoiler] [/su_accordion]
[su_accordion class=””] [su_spoiler title=”What Would Happen In An Emergency?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]
This doesn’t happen often and it’s not nice to talk about. That said, we do have measures in place.
On your consultation, we’ll ask for your contact details, mobile number, work number and landline. We’ll also ask for the phone numbers of your spouse or a trusted family member who can make decisions on your behalf in case we can’t get hold of you on the phone.
On top of that, we’ll ask you to sign a document giving us the authority to act on your behalf in the worst of circumstances.
You should notify your vet that we have your permission to act in an emergency situation.[/su_spoiler] [su_spoiler title=”What Security Measures Do You Have in Place?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]
Security is very important to us.
In terms of the people we employ, we’re very picky. We have a very thorough selection process and all our staff are criminal record checked. We’ll show you these documents on your consultation.
We secure your keys securely in a safe and they are stored securely and only marked by the name of your pet. Your address is not attached to them in any way. So if we were to lose them (which has never happened), no one would ever know what address they’re for. Even so, we’d also replace the locks at your home.[/su_spoiler][su_spoiler title=”Is Pet Checkers Insured?” open=”no” style=”default” icon=”plus” anchor=”” anchor_in_url=”no” class=””]
All of our processes and procedures are designed to avoid us needing to rely on insurance claims. That said, we do have insurance in place.
We have Public Liability Insurance which insures us up to £5,000,000. This covers your dog and home if;
- Your dog causes an accident while in our care there will be third-party cover
- Your dog is injured through our fault, we will cover the cost of treatment
- We accidentally damage anything in your home will pay to replace it
- We lose a key, we will cover the cost of a locksmith to replace your locks
- If your pet goes missing while in our care, we can cover the cost of a reward, recovery or replacement.

We understand that circumstances change so if you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible. You can call us, leave a message, text us or email us.
However, cancellations made within 48 hours of a pop-in visit are subject to the full charge.
For live-in pet sitting, we will take a 25% deposit. Any cancellations made within 14 days will render your deposit non-refundable. Cancellations made within 7 days will be subject to the full charge.[/su_spoiler] [/su_accordion]

Vicki looked after my huge dog Piper for 8 days whilst housesitting, and was brilliant with her. Piper is looking forward to seeing Vicki again, so glad I found Petcheckers!

Amazing service. To come back to 2 indoor cats after a week away and to find them happy, content and calm is incredible. And my flat didn’t smell bad either!
